In a band with only one guitarist what is the best way to play a solo over a track?

I am running in to this problem and my digitech jamman is just too nit picky to get it to work properly. Any other thoughts?

Thanks

Get the bassist to go up and octave on his bass line for the break down so you can solo.

Just don't try to make him sound like a guitar, that'll look cheesy. You know what I mean? Like, a girl whose had plastic surgery might look good but if she adamantly refuses to admit that she had surgery, then it seems like she was born with funky scar lines, you know? So it's better if she say s"yeah I had something done" becuase you'll respect her honesty, even if that is all you respect.
