Rightio, my squier is getting a HSH pickguard, so I need new pickups to fill the humbucker slots. I play mostly metal & some classic/bluesy rock, and I play through a Peavey Valveking. I've pondered over the following pickup combos, but I need some input, before I make any purchases.

Dimarzio Tone Zone (B)
Dimarzio PAF or Air Norton (N)

or

Seymour Duncan SH-5 Custom (B)
Seymour Duncan '59 or Pearly Gates (N)

any help appreciated!

I own the Dimarzio set. the Air Norton is great for producing fat/warm clean sounds and when used with distortion the tone is so smooth and rounded (really great for shred...for me anyways ).
the tonezone has a more gritty quality to it, which is great hor metal rythem and solos.

Since I don't play hard rock, I can't really comment on how the set would do.

If you aren't too concerned with the cleans of the bridge pichup, I would suggest a Dimarzio D-activator.

what's your budget? and how heavy metal?
I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

I'd have thought a pair of Breeds would be the best bet....I wouldn't recommend the Tone Zone to anyone unless they could be absolutely spot on about their tonal requirements.

Up to $400 AU, and I play a lot of Lamb Of God, Early Metallica and Megadeth, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Slayer, White Zombie, and a little bit of A7X, mostly bands along those lines.
