Right, my Vintage guitar has 2 double coil and 1 single coil Wilkinson pickups. I am wanting to change the Bridge pickup [as I mainly use that one alone] to something better but I don't know what will suit the tone I want.

I had a look at some EMG's and a Hotrail thing.
Can anyone suggest what I should be looking at for playing metal with distortion obviously and I like to have a treble-y sound but I can't stand my low strings sounding hollow.

Thanks

amp?

Don't bother if you're amp isn't all that great, you'll just be wasting your money. If the amps good though look at the Swineshead Venom.

Actually, scratch that...listen to it instead, much better idea, yeah

Haha. Yeah my amp is new and my new guitar sounds great on it, I just feel like as a metal guitar I want more kick out of it.

I really don't think pickups will make all that difference, but hey, it's your money...a Venom will set you back about £50, just don't expect it to perform miracles.

*Shrug. If he already bought the thing, it's a little late. If he really wants a killer pup, swineshead it probably the way to go, but if he's buying Behringer stuff, he's probably in a different price bracket. Take a look at GFS pups at guitarfetish.com.

Swinesheads are relatively cheap in the UK - the Venom is pretty much spot on for what you want, i'll even link to it for you.

on 1: Sorry to hear that about your grandmother

on 2: They tend to make almost all guitar sound the same even though they difer betwen a 10 bucks pickups (yep, a used one) and a 200 one, even like that it will sound the same if the frecuenzies are equals...

sorry about your grandma
but a pickup change will make very little difference on a modelling amp
you would probably be better off getting a better amp
and with 500 you could get a pretty nice amp, preferably tube

also if that amp is very new you may be able to return it

http://www.thomann.de/gb/peavey_valve_king_112_gitarrencombo.htm

well there are more but tube amps but i am really not to keen on what else there is haha, but tube amps are usually a lot more responsive to pickup changes and also take pedals pretty well

you could check the web and then ask if they have any in your price range at your local guitar store

That is true - £400 will get you a Marshall DSL401, and you'd still have change left over for pickups.

Oh OK I follow now...

I am tempted but I am now also pissed off that it won't make a difference until I use someone else's amp or buy a new one haha.

OK let's move on, Amps now? Not super expensive but I don't want crap.

I ain't buying today so don't put me down as a huge impulse buyer haha

Depends on your budget. For metal, right? What kind of metal?

Well I like my treble =]

I actually play nearly any metal from your normal and heavy metal to a little bit of thrash, mainly because I'm not good enough to do a lot of stuff at the moment but I listen to Metallica and Maiden to Cradle Of Filth and Children Of Bodom.

I think I would like something quite middle ground but I would need leeway to be able to vary, although my current amp and other crap like that boggles my mind and I don't use half the functions. I can just about use the Tuner haha.
