I own a Zoom G2 and I know that it can be tricky to get a good tone 'cause it has so many different settings. Check out this website: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/zoomg2/
It's a group of a lot of Zoom G2 users that can further help you out.

A few tips:
-If you're using it trough an amp, disable cab modding and enable the extra EQ function. Cab modding is only usefull if you're running the G2 directly into your computer or a PA system.
-Don't forget that a more distorted sound can not only be achieved by the 'gain' setting, but also by adjusting the 'booster' setting.

The manual will cover the basis functions so I'm not going to go into detail about them. If you're looking to achieve a specific sound, tell me your guitar and amp and I might be able to help you. Good luck.
