I was going to say "set master volume to zero".

London. Which is like Alaska, in the sense that neighbours live miles away from each other. Or, rather, if you tried to invite your neighbour over for a barbie, they'd call the police.

Probably.

It's always dark in London.

I think you're all vampires.

You've been to London, then?

Well, you must know about the monocle-wearing men with expensive timepieces on chains round their waist, the wonderful architecture, the cultured women and the vampires you already mentioned.

That, and the world's worst river, high council tax rates, disconnected communities, a massive rich/poor divide, bungalows, steeply rising stabbing and shooting offences, car pollution, 94% grey clouds, several huge shopping streets that are crowded with young couples that are about 5'2" tall and walk at 0.03MPH, congestion charge, poor commuting services, rusty apartment blocks, vast numbers of crack cocaine and heroine users, homophobic prejudice, race prejudices, sex prejudices, high numbers of unemployment, low school attendance levels, poor district and social planning, a parliament and boroughs that don't listen to the community's needs, and of course not forgetting the levels of homeless people getting ever higher.

Yep, London's a fine and dandy place, all right. (Sorry for the whinge.)

You seem to be a very well grounded person. I (an American) always say to people who want to move over there "It's just the same there as it is here".

Haha, yeah. It's the same pretty much everywhere, then. Everyone needs to find the right place for them.

Mmm. Philosophical.

EDIT : I forgot to mention Buckingham Palace. What a waste of money, time and news coverage. But the English Monarchy is another debate entirely...

having recently been to london, i couldn't agree more. especially about the 2"-ers walking around so slowly they are moonwalking. trouble is, they carry knives/guns/really big scary items so you can't complain about them even if they did just back into you whilst walking forwards.

Yeah I went a few years ago, my brother and his wife got both their companies to send them over there for 6 months.

They lived in some flat (or whatever the hell you crazy brits call them) by Knightsbridge station and Harrod's.

I think the thing I noticed most was the amount of porn being advertised in the phone booths .

Oh, and the fact that the cars there magically turn people into selfish assholes when they enter them.

Knightsbridge, eh? That's supposedly one of the 'nice' parts of London...

And yeah, flats are a stupid thing to call apartments.

Oh, and it's not porn, in the material sense. Most of it's for call girls, etc. Mind you I've not used a phone booth for years (mobile phone, anyone?) so maybe things have changed a little.

And to blompcube, yeah, everybody with a hoody carries a knife or gun

No hoody hugging, then...

Ah, politics...
