I recently purchased a used Marshall DSL401 made in 2001, so the amp is about 6 or 7 years old, give or take. I also just got my Big Muff Pi pedal today. When I play the Big Muff on the clean channel it sounds great, but if I switch to the overdrive channel on my Marshall the speaker on the amp makes a bad sounding sound, like it's blown out or overloaded or something. It does this at any volume.

I know the speaker's good because it sounds fine with the amp's stock distortion and everything even when cranked to outrageous volume, but when I use the Big Muff on anything but the clean channel the breakup goes away and the amp sounds like mud.

Does this mean it's time for a new speaker or is this normal?
