I bought my guitar off my friend and he showed me a couple of chords. Then I decided that I would try to play a part of a song that I liked, so i picked to opening to One. Unfortunately this requires playing 2 frets that have 1 between them(2 and 4). Just wondering when you're playing songs like this what fingers do you use? I was using my index and my baby fingers but it dosen't feel right as i couldn't press the string down hard enough.

if theres one fret in between then you would usually use your ring finger.
and Metallica is usually not good for beginners i would start with some easier stuff.

use index on 2nd fret and ring finger on 4th fret, if there were to be a note on the 5th fret you would use your pinky

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus-Top, SH-2 and SH-5
Ibanez GRX20
Baron Acoustic
Peavey Valveking 112
Roland Cube 15
Dunlop Crybaby From Hell
Dunlop GCB-95 Crybaby

In the theory side of music you use one finger per fret in any position [the position is where your first finger is.]

Thanks, when I was been shown a power chord he was telling me to use my ring finger, didn't work out but I suppose I'll just keep practicing.

When reading 'One' I straight away thought of the u2 song One, then later realized it was Metallica.

And yes that's a valid point, Metallica isn't the best band to start.

If you really wanna start off playing guitar I would go more for a band that specializes in power chords and repitition. Pretty much any punk music. Metallica picks a lot. Not good for beginners.

Early ac/dc is pretty easy to learn. Most have only a few chords and use the same ones in most songs. Alot of blues is easy to learn, yea I know it doesnt sound cool with a ton of distortion. But you gotta look at alot of different things. Alot of black sabbath is pretty easy to learn. The guy is missing part of 2 fingers after all.
