Well, I always understood you could mix and match as you please (provided the Ohms were matching and your head didn't overpower the speakers handling). Anyway, my bass teacher currently has an old Acoustic head...Which sounds great, the cab however doesn't, it's in poor shape, he was considering buying it from a friend, but decided not to, so I was contimplating it, but he said mixing it with say, an EBS 4x10, would not sound as good. Was he right?

Go get borrow a cab and test it out. And I don't see why it wouldn't work, people mix and match all the time.
