So I do have a legit question, but first, to avoid getting flamed and the like:
Yes, I understand how much this song has been played to death, how much every kid with a guitar thinks they're awesome because they can play a crap version of it, etc, etc.
and yes, it probably is one of my least favourite nirvana songs, purely cos im so sick of hearing it everywhere.

BUT -

Smells like teen spirit.
I was just watching a nirvana documentary and there was this bit where they were analysing the songs, and they got to teen spirit. the dude went to the solo and took everything out of the mix except the solo guitar and i realised something.

kurts tone in the solo is awesome.

so my question - what is it? why does it sound so cool? i was thinking maybe it was a bit of chorus or something, but im not exactly sure. any ideas on how i could get the solo tone?

Wait is this the Classic Albums: Nevermind video? I have that DVD and I dont remember that part. I'm gonna have to go back and rewatch it now.
