I have an old electric that I decided I was gonna repaint then spray a design onto (using a stencil), and so far I've sanded off the varnish, I didn't go all the way to the wood because I thought it would be unnecessary, because I'm just going to be repainting it.

Anyway, now I just need to know what paint to use? I'm going to be doing a base colour, and a few coats of that, then use car paint to spray on the design.

I know what spray to use because I've seen it used before, but I'm not sure on the actual paint.

Any help guys?

Cheers

Well, what colour is the guitar now, and what colour do you want it to be?

Right now it's sunburst, and I'm not sure on the colour yet, I'm still thinking of designs

ok, well the outsides and middle of sunburst are relatively dark, so if you are doing a light colour over top, be prepared to either sand to the wood, or do many, many coats of paint.

Okay, note taken, thanks!

I've just made a design now that I'm probably gonna go with.

So, black body, and white spray paint.

Now I just need to know what kind of paint to use?

I'm in the UK by the way.

Car paint, the acrylic stuff in aerosol cans, like duplicolour or krylon, available at big chain and home improvement stores.

Right, I think I've got it now.

I'm gonna do a few coats of primer (kinda grey colour)

Then spray it black with black car paint

Then spray the stencil onto it

Then varnish

Thanks Øttər!
