I don't have access to a bass guitar right now, but I'd like to put a bass part in some of my recordings. I tried using the guitar pro export feature, but it sounds really dumb since it's a midi. Are there any programs that are like drum machines except for bass?

Get a software synthesizer. I really like ZynAddSubFX because it gives you access to any sound imaginable if you know what you're doing. Or if you prefer soundfonts (soft of like midi presets) then you should grab a soundfont-capable synth and then find a nice free bass soundfont.

I can't help you if you're running mac or windows, though.

Sure am. It's the best for audio production in my opinion.

I hear good and bad things about linux as an audio system.

Edit: but I spose any system has its good and bad points.

sorry this has nothing to do with the topic....

I'm curious - which version are you running? I am a longtime Mac user (though I do have PC's as well) and am not a total newb to Unix programming because of my Mac use, but I currently try to install Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon and it was has been an utter nightmare.

I have currently given up on it, because I cannot get the wireless drivers to work and a computer without internet is of very little use to me, considering I cannot download or even install software updates for anything, check my email, browse UG, etc. I truly want Ubuntu to work as I would love to get off Vista and back to a Unix based OS, but I am very frustrated with all my Linux attempts up to this point.
