I want to get an overdrive pedal but (of course) know nothing about them.
I'd like one that makes a sound like in metallica's nothing else matters interlude near the beggining of the song.

PLEASE can someone help me choose a pedal?

for a beginner something like a simple boss overdrive pedal would be fine for now.

Boss SD-1 probably.

Boss's official site lets you hear various audio clips of each pedal. So you'll have a better idea what to expect.

Yeah i been on that site the MT-2 Metal Zone sounds great!

You should try it yourself - you'll notice that when companies post sound clips and demo clips you will never be able to get it to sound as good.

MT-2 is a good pedal, but for a new guy might be hard for him to find a good sound out of it at first, and when playing most Boss distortion pedals, amp makes it sound all the difference. I would say get a mt-2 if you have nothing better to do, but for simpleness get a ds-1, then you can just trade it in and get a mt-2
