I just realized that whenever I'm thinking I always talk to myself in my head (like me and my brain are separated somehow) Does anyone else do that...? I'm just wondering if its 'normal.' Also if it is normal, what's the difference between that and schizophrenia?

You don't mean schizophrenia, you mean multiple personality disorder. Nobody seems to understand that they're two different conditions.

Anyhow, I think everyone talks to themself to an extent in their head. It's normal.
I play by my own rules. And I have one rule; There are no rules... but if there are, they're there to be broken. Even this one.

We've always had some form of language, it just evolved to become much more complex. Maybe they were zoned out most of the time? Or maybe they thought in terms of natural noises like laughter, screaming, grunting, etc.? Or maybe they just had pure emotion running through them rather than any words?

I think a good general rule of thumb is, if it's you in your head, that's cool; it's when it's other people that it gets a bit bad.
#8
as long as you don't start talking out loud to yourself, then no worries

Multiple personalities are multiple distinct personalities while schizophrenia is as if two people are sharing the same consciousness
#10
My whole life is basically a giant inner monologue, I don't believe I could think any other way.
#11
I ask myself questions in my head, but I don't think it's really an inner monologue. Maybe it is? I talk to myself out loud when drunk though. I remember last night I was out in town arguing with myself about my cigarette smoking I kicked my ass.

Well yes, but there are multiple forms of schizophrenia and as far as I know, the personality thing is only one of them, so using schizophrenia as an umbrella term to describe it is inaccurate. Although I was unaware that multiple personality disorder had to refer to distinct personalities.

Whats crazier is thinking of what your going to think about, for example you play a song in your head but there is another voice singing it just before the 'first' voice sings it. I know I probably just sounded really retarded but do you get what I mean?

I talk to myself, but it's not like having a conversation. It's just me saying **** to myself. It'd be a bit odd if I replied to myself, IMO.

I switch into music mode for writing songs tho. It's odd to describe; it's the only time I don't have words in my head. Instead I have riffs and drums and stuff.
#19
Yeah I do. I play out arguments with myself.

Aye that's how I think, I always have discussions with myself. When lying in bed trying to get to sleep I think as if in conversation with someone else (or even in conversation with myself).

Funnily I also often lose concentration when someone's talking to me because I hear the first sentence or two they say then lead off in the conversation with myself and imagine what they are saying rather than what they ARE actually saying... *sigh*...

Oh and also I often start conversations with "no but...." then talk and realise that that is because I am responding to something I have been thinking. People don't know what I'm talking about at first because since I have been talking about it in my head, I am already referring to many crucial things in the topic as "that" or "this" or people as "he" or "she" and assume people know what I am talking about. It is getting quite bad.

1 - A monologue is ONE person speaking.

2 - More than one person speaking is a dialog or conversation.

3 - Having an inner dialog, as you described does sound like schizophrenia, but I'm not certain.
I'll have to check on that for you.

4 - I shut out the rest of the world and crawled inside my own brain.
We all agree, you're most definitely a fucking nutcase.

i actually do that too man. especially when i have something really deep to think about and i'm in bed and its so foggy like i have all these thoughts in my head so i seperate them by like pros and cons. so i'm like, ok slow down, then i think about one point, then then next. it's pretty weird how the brain works i can't even explain it properly but i'm sure that majority of ppl have experienced that. unless you're like one of those cocky ppl, or stubborn and u never think before you do something, that's what ppl mean by thinking before u do something, then mean like talking it through in your head. Sometimes I turn it off, like when i'm trying to be funny in school, i just say random thigns, like i just turn off my brain, and i just say whatever i'm thinking as long as it sounds funny, but that's how ppl that are actually stupid feel like

I always talk to myself in my head. Sometimes out loud too.

Like we had to do some test at college to see what 'learning type' we were;
'Do you talk to yourself when you are working? yes/no'
"Do I talk to myself when I'm working. DO I talk to myself when reading? Yes I do talk to myself, tick yes."

I have imaginary conversations with other people too.

It's still one person speaking so you sort of contradicted yourself.

I assumed talking to yourself is still a monologue...

Now I'm just guessing, but if you aware you are talking to yourself then I'm pretty sure it isn't schizophrenia.

Fixed.

I use the inner monologue a lot, but mainly I just sort of talk to a third party that exists in my head. It's like I'm conversing with someone about myself. I talk about myself to this person a lot, because I usually have nothing better to think about with the 94% of my brain that I don't use during school and such.

i saw michael hedges talking about this, there are 3 states of mind when playing music.

1. your hearing it played and not consciously controlling the music(past)
2. your focused on the music and are consciously controlling it and are completely aware of what your hands/mouth/feet are doing to create music(present), this is the hardest one to do
3. you are hearing the music in your head ahead of time and the music follows(future)

Having an inner monologue helps me organize my thoughts better. That's usually when I have to make a big decision or I'm thinking about something that makes me upset. Usually when I have to think logically.

But normally I think in images. It's weird.
