And I'm a bit worried about getting it now that my aunt has gotten it. Seems like a pretty nasty disease. I'm not a hypochondriac or anything, but for some reason, I have been worried about getting it. I just got over a cold, and my immune system is probably a bit down right know... which makes it worse. Is there anything I can do to protect myself from getting it, besides washing my hands more often?

just wash your hands more often and make sure you cover any cuts or scrapes you get. it's really not THAT big of a deal, a few people in my school have gotten it and they were fine.

+1 for telling the truth and not making a huge deal about it.

They say it can be deadly, but so can a flu, and more people will die from flu's this year than the staph infection.
I can honestly say I have really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like.

I'd say 1 person gets staph at my school per week, its pretty scary but most doctors can take care of it. Washing you're hands more often isnt gonna do anything, just stay away from locker room showers, thats the main place that it lurks. Also keep any cut or wound covered with at least a band aid.

I suppose wash your hands more and eat healthier you know, just try to get a strong immune system. Also covering cuts or scrapes is a good idea.

I did a school report on Staphylococcus (Staph). It's actually really interesting. It's actually partially immune to boiling (meaning it takes several minutes in boiling water to kill them).

Also, MRSA is Mellanin-Resistant-Staphyloccus-Aureus. Yes, washing hands really helps. Also, Staph can live on hard surfaces with no moisture for hours before it dies. Also, it can be transmitted through things such as towels and anything else that multiple people may have contact with.

Do what these people have said and if you happen to get it then go to a doctor and they'll prescribe some medication for it.

I had it last year and although it sucked it went away.

Outbreak here as well.

It's really not as bad as eveyrone makes it out to be. Every school system has had to deal with it at one point. All doctors carry the proper anti-biotics for it aswell.

Yeah, MRSA. It's methycillin resistant, however there are still anti-biotics every docotr has for it. It's not new at all.

There is, however, another strain that is extremely rare, that is rather hard to get rid of.

Actually, it's been recently shown (or so I've been told in lectures) that vitamin C does next to sweet FA when you've contracted something.

EDIT: By the way, it's not MRSA you need to be worried about. There's a new superbug that the media hasn't caught wind of yet called ESBL- Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactose. I've been told it's quite nasty.

And the MRSA situation is blown way out of proportion.

There's one in my area, too.

The media are really blowing it out of proportion. There have been numerous amounts of athletes that have gotten it at my school since it opened, that was 14 years ago. Now all of a sudden it's an "epidemic". Just sounds like more "cover your ass" bullshit.

MRSA. Yep. Had it. Still have the red marks. It doesn't mean **** though, unless you're old. It just itches and burns for a while, then nothing.
