i need some new songs to learn that will improve my technical skill and be fun to play...no death metal or shredders please. i'd prefer either rock, classic rock, or just metal.

Back when I was a teen, I was making out with this girl, when I had the bright idea of putting my hand inside her panties.

She had her period.

What do you listen to? Are there any songs you like that you can't play? If so, learn them.

Guns'n'Roses - sweet child o'mine

the intro, has some good arpeggio work out, and the middle parts have some cool open chord picking as well. the melodic interludes are easy as well, helps bending to the right pitch and gaining control.

Anything by AC/DC pretty much, let me name a few:

Hells Bells
Highway To Hell
Back In Black
You Shook Me All Night Long
Shake A Leg
Shoot To Thrill
TNT

The good thing about AC/DC is that they have some pretty awesome songs that are fun to play, and not only that, but most are extremely easy.

And maybe:

Pink Floyd - Mother, Us And Them, Is There Anybody Out There
Guns n' Roses - Welcome To The Jungle, Sweet Child o' Mine
Rush - Red Barchetta

You can always find songs on Guitar Hero games. That's where I got my songs when I first picked up my guitar. Try some KISS maybe?!?

Try expanding your horizon:

Django Reinhardt - Minor Swing
Al Di Meola - Egyptian Danza
Rodrigo y Gabriela - Tamacun

They're not rock songs, but they will improve your rock playing.

Stabwound by Necrophagist...

Just kidding Drew.

Learn some Coheed and Cambria. The Final Cut is right up your alley.

Opeth, Opeth, Opeth. I know that "progressive death" is still death metal, but I know you and I know you like them. I'd say start with something like Blackwater Park.
