It's an okay lesson, but it still doesn't really teach you much about the scale itself, just the mechanics of playing it which is the least important part, and that's where any video leson on theory falls down.

That's just it, you CAN'T learn it from a video, you just need to do some old-fasioned studying.

Actually... I'm pretty sure NLG(nextlevelguitar) has some videos on theory and intervals of scales on their site(but they are not in the free section). He always talks about knowing the intervals and what notes you are playing, to never learn just the box shape.

Try here...there's some good stuff.

http://www.musictheory.net/index.html

Ignore the fact that it concentrates on piano, the same rules apply to guitar. If you don't know the notes yet then spend a bit more time learning them.

It's not really - think about it, even with a teacher you'll spend an hour a week at most with them. You still have to do the majority of it yourself, and no matter how good your teacher is they can't learn stuff for you.

It takes a LONG time to learn to play the guitar, even with a teacher, you shouldn't get disheartened because things aren't happening overnight.

I think this guy is good at teaching, I've learned Johnny b Goode from one of his videos so far. I personally think he's good at teaching.
