I really need my guitar tuned. And I was wondering if it was possible it were explained in text. I think I need to tune by ear, as my electronic tuner isn't all that good. So is there any way at all to explain how to tune by ear?
Guitars:
-Marquez MD-200 Cutaway Steel String Acoustic
-Some cheap electric guitar

Err, I can't help getting the high e (thinnest string) in tune, but once that's in tune, follow the following guide:
B string 12th fret = e string 7th fret
G string 12th fret = B string 8th fret
D string 12th fret = G string 7th fret
A string 12th fret = D string 7th fret
E string 12th fret = A string 7th fret

either that or make sure your guitar volume is on full into the tuner, so the tuner can pickup the guitar. if your volume on the guitar is on zero, it wont work.

Download something called AP tuner by Audiophonics. its free and really good.

you would need to get an adaptor for your jack plug so it can plug into your computer, but they are easily available and cheap.

then just plug your guitar into the line in on your computer and tune away.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one - it's excellent. If your tuner's not tracking notes very well, make sure you select your neck pickup, and roll off the tone control a bit.

If you have a piano at home, you will be able to tune off that. Using that method, you'll be able to train your ears. A tuning fork is also a good option.

the most effective way of ear tuning is natural harmonics -

when your low E is in tune:
5th fret harmonic on E=7th fret harmonic on A
5th fret harmonic on A=7th fret harmonic on D
5th fret harmonic on D=7th fret harmonic on G
9th fret harmonic on E=5th fret harmonic on A (this one isn't very reliable unless your guitars intonation is perfect)
5th fret harmonic on B=7th fret harmonic on high E
