by Dream Theater, do you think this is way too hard for somebody who's been playing for a year? ok, maybe not the solos, but just maybe the first long ass half of the song (I didn't even though it had like 6 parts, nor octavarium)

I'm used to playing things like 7/8 and 8/12 and such if that would be a problem

yea, it's a great song, i was learning it on bass for a bitt but then i quit bass to play guitar

There are some easy riffs and some very hard riffs.

The problems with Petrucci many of the riffs are more complicated than the solos, which couldnt get too much more complicated in some cases. Awkward fingerings and whatnot. I think part VII The Crimson Sunset (that's right, seven parts ) is slightly easier and still very good (especially the opening lead riff)
