I'm sort of looking for something thats relatively cheap, and only for recording (or practice)... I was thinking of maybe like a 5 watt tube amp, so i can crank it and get a decent sound to record...any ideas? -- or is this not the way to go?

no personal experience except in my local guitar center but i would say that 5W would be enough. they dont have to be expensive but they arent gonna be that cheap if you want anything decent.

Fender has a 5-watt tube for $189.99. It sounded pretty good too.

those valve juniors look interesting, do you just use a pedal if you want more distortion?

yeah, but honestly i like the head with a 1x12 cab better.

they are very loud and take pedals well.

the combo's dont impress me as much.

Jenny needs to sow her wild oats with random Gibsons and Taylors she picks up in bars before she settles down with a PRS.

nah, doesnt need to be 5 watts.

you just buy a $100 empty cab and put in a speaker. or cheap used one.

almost any wattage over 5 will do.

ive got a $45 eminence Red coat in mine.

Epi sells a matching cab, but i like mine better.

if you can play it really loud, you start getting Rock - hard rock. gritty, dark tones.

hmm, well i use mine everyday, it's easier than my blues jr.

but i dont think id get one if i had an ad30.
unless i wanted a starter tube amp. maybe something to mod, and i had a couple hundred sitting around.

oh and ive got a ds1, a metal muff, a tube screamer, eq and delay.
