I'm totally upping up my rig soon, and on my list were a Line 6 DL-4 Delay, a Vox V847A Wah, a Boss TR-2 Tremolo, a Boss CH-1 Chorus, Boss PS-5 Super Shifter, and either a Boss Flanger or Boss Phase Shifter.

I'm pretty set on the DL-4 and the V847A, but as the BOSS pedals I didn't do much research. Are there higher quality pedals for the same (or a little more) cost than the Boss pedals?

Also, do you think I should go for a Flanger or Phase Shifter? I play mostly rock, punk, and alternative, so which do you think I would find a use for more?

I'd get a whammy instead of a PS-5. I have a PS-5 and it doesnt sound as good and you have to buy an expression pedal. I also recommend a Phase shifter and im going to warn you against boss chorus i know the CH-1 is supposed to be great but will cost a fair bit and you could look into the EHX high range pedals for that price. Guyatone make a pretty good cheap effects and tube powered ones which are expensive that absolutely rock.

Thats my opinion anyway, hope i helped.

I say EHX Small clone is much better then the Boss, cheaper also i believe.

The EHX Stereo electric mistress also looks great.

The Boss Phase Shifter to me is my favourite pedal.
You can get some pretty flangy sounds out of it as well (saves having to buy that).
The quality of the pedal however isn't as good as an MXR Phase 90 or Small Stone, but it does have WAY more functions, and in this case, I'm happy to have quantity over quality.
Here in Aus you can get them a bit cheaper than the MXR as well.

THe LIne 6 Delay is ok, but it breaks like a son of a bitch. For a delay, I'd go analog, since you are willing to pay for a DL-4. Do some research on delays( some of these are digital but still very nice) from: EHX, Boss (DD-3), Guyatone (MD-3), Maxon, T-Rex, Diamond, Carl Martin, Hao, HBE, Damage Control, Danelectro (except the fab series and the ones with the food names, onces like the Reel Echo and Wasabi Forward/Reverse are worth a squizz), BYOC (if you know how to solder)

For the wah, I haven't played the Vox, but I can tell you that a Dunlop 535Q is very good. matter of opinion on that one though, try both yourself.

There are plenty of better tremolo out there though. There is a VOX one that is absolutely excellent, tubed and everything. Go boutique for tremolo, you won't regret it. THe BYOC Tremolo is great as well if you can solder.

The Boss Chorus is very good. Personally, I hate the Small Clone as it sounds fake. The Boss CH-1 is clean and full of life IF you know how to use it. The Chorus Ensemble is sterile though. The Voodoo Labs Chorus is also great but for chorus, go a Visual Sound H20 (takes care of delay as well, great pedal)

As previously mentioned, go the Digitech Whammy for a pitch shifter, it absolutely smashes the PS-5

For a phaser go MXR Phase 90 and do not look otherwise. The only possible competitors are the FOXX foot phaser and the Red Witch Moon Phaser. I cannot stress enough that you MUST not get a PH-3. Get the MXR Phase 90. The PH-3 is the most digital, sterile and ****ty phaser I have ever heard and probably the worst pedal EVER made.

i dunno..for the wah and delay you made great choices (even though id take the analog dmm over the dl-4 any time)

tremolo: do a head-to-head of the boss, rocktron, and the voodoo labs tremolo
chorus: ehx small clone all the way
the shifter thing? nah...get a whammy if you want stuff like that

flanger AND phaser: ehx flange hoax
or electric mistress and mxr phase 90

Whodicted

Thanks to everybody on your input. I didn't really want BOSS, those were just the effects I wanted and those were the only ones I knew off.

And for the Phase Shifter, is this (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/MXR-M101-Phase-90-Pedal?sku=151100) the Phase 90 you were all talking about?

Also, does anyone know the model name for the Vox tremolo that was mentioned earlier? And I'm still looking for a Flanger opinion.

Yes that is the Phase 90. The EVH one is also brilliant. If you get the stock Phase 90, I recommend the R28 mod but it does great without.

The EHX Flanger Hoax and Electric Mistress are both great. Guyatone put out a good flanger too.

The VOX tremolo I think is a Cooltron but don't quote me on that. I'll just check for you.

IncuEdit: Yes it is part of the cooltron series. It is called a VibraVox. Here is a link to the VOX site where it is.
