hi guys, i was wondering. i might be buying a used 5150 this weekend but i put off buying a new pickup to afford it. so when i'm playing it what would a Hot Rail give me that my SC seymour duncan wouldn't? just to be curious

so will i still get a thick tone with the amp, but the pickups would make it thicker?

The pickups will help, but the amp should do in the meantime. After all it will be much faster for you to save up for a new pickup...

Singlecoils won't handle the 5150's gain levels as well as humbuckers would. Buy the amp first, but a humbucker or hotrail type thingymajig would be a good investment too.
