The "quilt" is a pattern in the wood. The manufacturers don't put the swirl in, God/mother Nature/Science does.

Quilt and flamed maple are both the natural grain/growth rings of the tree, they're like twisted or something, and when it's milled flat the grain shows up like that. It's nothing that the manufacturers do.

But as said above^ its a natural thing that occurs in the wood itself, the manufacturers dont do anything to the wood to make it quilted, the same goes for flame maple too.
