I have a band practice coming up tomorrow and wanted to have something sweet to play, just wondering if you guys could help me out with forming some of those continuous basslines (dont know what theyre called)... like, if the drummer starts playing a beat i wanna be able to make something up on the spot.

and example would be like this bassline (simple i know):

--------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------
-33333333------------------------------------------
---------------33333333-55555555-11111111-

Lol hmmmm...............................why not try.

--------------------------------------------4444-------
--------------------------------------------------------
-22222222------------------------------------------
---------------66666666-00000000--------------

or

--------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------
---------------33333333-55555555-11111111-

Learn you chords, like major, minor that sort of stuff. a majro chord is for example

--------------------------
--------------------------
-----------2-----5-------
--------3----------------- (g major)

anyway if you learn chords (the majors and minors) just ask yoru friends wat chords they play and then you can improvise with these 3 simple notes an djust play 8th notes,

I know I suck at explaining -.-'

what do u mean by chords, i know the major and minor scales if its similar

well if you know the scales its even better :P To find out what a chord is you better read the lessons here on Ultimate-Guitar, its bound to be somewhere. But for the improvisation, if you can find out what root-note when your friends play a chord. ( say A minor) you can play some notes of the A minor scale.
