Get a used Peavey 5150 Combo.

Far better for metal than the Valveking.

^I'd let a pro look at it. Once you get into the technicalities of screws...well, it's just a place you don't want to be, friend.

Yep if you use some type of distortion like a Boss Metalzone or something. The amp itself has a good crunch distortion, but nothing too extreme. If you can find a used 5150, then that would be a better bet for metal.

How would the Randall compare to a Laney HCM30 ?
Which would be better fro thrash or death metal ?

^^Good plan with the 5150. Or a Randall RG50TC.
Maybe check out a B-52 AT-112?

5150 > B-52 and the Randall.

If you can find a used Ampeg vh140c, definately a solid amp that will probably be very cheap.

Maybe you can find a used JCM800 combo and boost it? A lot of early 90s death metal bands were boosting JCMs

Well, I know that the 5150 is better for this purpose than both...But if he can't find a 5150, but he can find those...

5150 would be ideal but for under $700?
Even used would cost you more than that here in England.
VK with boost would do the job.

Basically. I wouldn't buy a 5150, but that's just not at all my cup of tea. If I were looking at $600 amps, I'd find a used Carvin Legacy, or mabye a Vintage Twin.
