The sad thing is, is I can write pretty good acoustic/electric songs, but I can't write lyrics worth a crap. I can write poems, really good poems, but they dont exactly rhyme!

Meeh..If only I could write lyrics.

Do you think I should just take my poems and put them to my music even though they don't always rhyme?

exactly. There are no rules to music. That's the beauty of it, you can do whatever you like. Since there's no rules, rhyming isn't required. Sure it might sound catchier or whatever, but that doesn't mean you can't write a good song without rhyming lyrics.

wow...that really sums it up. "That's the beauty in music." My English teacher Mr.Lannan (the greatest guy in the world) always said the same thing, but he never played any instruments. But he said the same thing about poetry..I love you guys
