how do you think they differ? culturally? politically? high school?? music?? i'm from uk, and see as america as a completely different, whacky world that i can't really relate to. american high school tv shows that show high school just looks so different to a british one - the cliches anyway - cheerleaders, jocks, ugly kids in band t-shirts etc. is that a true representation?

any other differences? are americans REALLY that fat??! lol. feel free to ask us brits anything. no, we don't all talk like the queen and drink tea from posh cultlery!!

Us Brits? It's quite an assumption to make that the good users of UG not from the UK can ask the brits here anything.
#6
the problem from both sides is that we only get to see what the media portrays and its not a good idea to judge an entire group of people based on that. From my own experiences Americans are a great bunch of people, but yes it does have some strange differences...pancakes and waffles for breakfast, I love it!

in most cases the stereotypes portrayed on tv shows do not represent how most of us are. there are of course exceptions to this, but on the average it isnt like that at all.

as far as fat people, we have our fair share. and i hate it. but again, not everyone is fat, there are just a lot of people that way.

Yeah.. The TV Shows about High School are all a ****ing over-dramatized lie. There aren't any god-like jocks that get all the girls, or cheerleaders that drive up in Feraris.

Um well being a typical American teenager I can answer most of these. Most of us don't wear uniforms to school. Most chiches you see in american tv shows about highschool are fairly true to an extent. There are cheerleaders, jocks, stoners, videogame nerds, ugly kids in band t-shirts etc. Many (but not all) american teengers enjoy ****ty rap songs they see goofy videos for on MTV (soulja boy anyone?). We enjoy getting drunk, we waste energy, and we usually have a superiority complex when discussing most countries not in europe.

Hello, I'm Nick and I'm from NJ, USA. I eat McDonald's at least once a week and stand 6 feet tall (1.8 metres) wiegh 125 lbs. (thats about 56 kilos) Proof that not every American is fat. Although there are a great deal of fat people here >_>

Also, why do your police have weird hats..?

I was at Wrentham Outlets yesterday... and I finally realized how many "large" or overweight people we have here. Not saying that everyone's fat, but a lot are. I saw more large people there than there were skinny. And at my high school, it's nothing like what you see on MTV. Those are only the huge high schools on the west coast.

if the peace sign is turned around, it is a rude gesture. and we have the middle finger gesture, which is also rude
#24
Oh yeah most of us also don't listen to "indie" music. By that I mean stuff like Arctic Monkeys, Keane, Kasabian, etc. And we drink coffee religously, especially starbucks, like you drink tea.

I'm from America. Those shows do not prove a thing. There are different groups of people in our society. Even though there are, most of them get a long quite well. Many can relate to many other groups. As like me Im a jock(football) but i obviously play an instrument(Or i wouldnt be on this site). So i fit with many people.

My biggest question is, Is the landscape as beautiful as it looks in pictures and different shows in the UK. I've always wanted to vistit

P.S And yes we have many fat obese people in our country!

You heard wrong. The same sign with the back of your fingers is offensive though, stemming from the Battle of Agincourt.

its like the peace gesture but reversed. It dates back to the 100 years war between England and France. English archers used to do it at the French to show they could still use a bow (the french chopped longbowmens fingers when they captured them) and so it became a mocking insult...particularly to the French

What American TV channels do you get there? My friend lived in Germany for a while, and said he only got MTV. If that's true for most of Europe, I don't blame anyone for having a bad opinion of Americans. Imagine having your most jealous, vindictive, spiteful ex-girlfriend talk to your new girlfriend about you. That's what it's like; you get all the bad, melodramatic, overblown stuff, mixed in with some straight up lies.

All i know is that Americans seem to get things WAY cheaper than us Brits, and they seem to have nicer houses than the boxes we live in. (Malcolm In The Middle...there poor! there house is F*ckin enormous)

Case in point, i bought a gibson flying V, RRP over here is £850 which is 1700 dollars or something? Yet every american site i look at has it for 1049 dollars, and the cheapest price i can find here is £700, which is still £200 ($400) more than the Americans can get one for....BAH SUCKS.

I think I would like to see how England is when I get older.. There's just something I don't like about the US.

Maybe it's the fact that I think we're going to get nuked sooner or later.

Seeing as Scottish isn't even a race, more a nationality, I don't see how it was racist. Indeed, I don't even see how someone could take it seriously. Jesus. And just for fun, my mother's Scottish. And nobody insults their mother, or her country.
