to put it simply if you computer is a Pentium 4 or better don't worry about it
even if the port was say a 1.1 (from a Pentium 3) the camera would still work

it also refers to the cable type as well

USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 work interchangeably, so you don't have to upgrade. But you will have faster file-moving speeds with USB 2.0

Like when I used the USB2.0-compatible iPod transfer cable with my old computer, which only had USB1.1 docks, it would take like 10 minutes to transfer 100 songs. On my current computer, which has all USB2.0 sockets, 100 songs takes seconds.
Life is underrated.

upgrade your computer if it does not use 2.0 USB
It's much faster

Last night I had to transfer some videos from another computer and used a SUB hard drive.

So it took 3 hours to put the files onto the HD using my computer with 1.1USB ports and then when I transfered to my new desktop with 2.0USB it got don't in just 7 minutes.

Yea I was shocked..
wait until you see what firewire does haha

Newegg.com has some cards you can install on your desktop to get 2.0 USB going.

Slowest to fastest:
USB1.1
USB2.0
Firewire (AKA 1394)

USB 1.1 and 2.0 both work with each other..same for the cables...
It's just the speed thats different.

usb1.1 is slow as hell

which is noticeable when copying +100mb files (i.e. video)
