Do i take the springs off?

Put a block of wood in the front cavity section.
Put as many springs as you can in the back section.
Though seeing as the strat trem is not floating, the wood isn't necessary

My newer strat has the fender standard tremolo and its floating if you want the bridge level. I used door shims. You can put em together opposed and if you slide em together they get thicker, apart thinner. I got em to where I wanted em then used wood glue. It will dive but doesnt float anymore.
