hey,
i want to get a new amp some time soon for jamming etc.
I play alot of alternative rock and metal stuff, also some thrash to death metal plus alot of other styles, im looking for versatile amps with a nice versatile gain tone and nice balanced sounding cleans.
i want to invest in a good amp that will last if you know what i mean.

i have been looking at some tube amps like;

Laney tt50 or vh100,
Hughes and kettner switchblade
Randall RG50TC
Marshall Dsl's

how are those amps?
any other suggestions i could look out for?..

Thanks to anyone who can help me out!

DSLs are about $1k, right? maybe try to find a Fender Super-Sonic combo, or maybe a Low-end Engl. U r gonna need several different OD/Distortions for playing everything from Alt. Rock to Death Metal.

im in England so guitar gear is way more anyway. i don't mind spending a bit for a really nice amp. but not ridiculous amounts.

Ive heard the rg50 is really good for high gain stuff.. does it also sound good at mid gain levels (does it sound really crunchy) and does it have decent cleans?

I've heard good things about the Hughes and Kettner. Another amp to look at would be a Peavey 5150 or 6505.

VOX, with tubes of course.

AC30's are great. you're going to need pedals of course, AMPs with too many presets usually suck.... Anyway, you can't use distortion all the time, and Vox has the best cleans, which means it can also have great distortion (you can distort any amp)

Slamming. Not thrashing. Sir.

My vote goes for the Vox. As long as she's all-tube, you can get a good hearty Vox and just run pedals to get the distortion and drive tones that you want.

that could be a possibility.. i have a metal muff pedal that may go well.. and i love the cleans on AC30's.

i did have my heart set on a high gain amp tho.. humm

Geta gain pedal, marshall is good... but nothing compares to a VOX clean, I have a AC 15 and it makes my dad's fender blues JR sound like shiz, and they're the same price.

Sorry.

In the spirit of thread-hood, I say go for the vox hybrid.

Nah, I'd say a full tube one would be better.

Well of course it would be better...but money is an option here.

In this situation, quality is not our #1 concern.

money may be an option, but he wants to spend money for a really nice tube amp.

why not suggest something that he wants?

Vox AC30 won't be able to get your Death Metal hi gain, but for cleans and overdrive it would be nice, its all about which genre you want to play more

I would suggest looking at a lower end ENGL.
