I was just thinking what would be a good and pref CHEAP H S H setup - say if i bought a cheap guitar and fitted it with slightly better pickups lol.

As I stated in title, Humbucker, single, humbucker - this is idealy what im looking 4:

Bridge - Chunky metal soundy

Middle (single) - Clean

Neck - Jazzy / Bluesy and mayb a little metal (4 solos)

Middle ain't too important, don't wanna go over the top in price either cos im not made of money and there's not much point saving on the guitar if im gonna hav 2 splash out loads on pickups.

I actually really like Standard Strat HSS pick-ups. They sound "prettier" than my DiMarzio super distortion HSS pick-ups. They're surprisingly "hot," too (louder than SCNs).

Get the following combination from www.swinesheadpickups.co.uk

Venom (bridge), Spotlight (middle), Condor (neck)

It will cost you less than Duncans, DiMarzios, Bare Knuckles etc. and will sound, in my opinion, better than the first two

not too sure if the venom is chunky though (i haven't tried it).

or if you want to save even more cash, maybe check out irongears? there's a 10% UG discount too.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

aye, it's (allegedly) t3h br00talz.

the warthog is pretyt chunky, but might not have enough gain.

I'd sub the Warthog for the Venom myself, a bit "chunkier" and not quite so trebly.

i wouldn't really call it a metal pickup, though, that's the problem... I'm not the most metal guy around, and even I, were I needing a guitar solely for metal, would probably like something a bit hotter than a warthog.

that's swineshead's only real flaw, if you ask me- not enough models... a lot of the time they have one pickup per genre, and if you don't like its eq curve, you're kinda screwed...

That is true. But when you're that picky, you're usually prepared to pay the prices that companies like Bare Knuckle charge

Good point, I'm kind of old fashioned (probably due to being old) so I tend to shy away from overly hot pickups, particularly after my experiences with the Tone Zone. I look more to the amp and pedals for gain. Also I never use majorly high gain metal tones, I tend to go for a looser, more organic tone no matter what I'm playing...think the Motorhead cover of Enter Sandman compared to the original.
