Sometimes when I'm bored I think about games and what cool features could be added to make them really cool.

I'll start with a line of sports games... basketball, baseball, hockey, american football (both pro and collegiate, including Arena and Canadian leagues), soccer, and an arcade game package with fun, quick simple versions of sports games similar to Mario soccer, and stuff.

Since I don't want to go into details about all of them, I'll talk about the American football game and the features it would have, and most of them would be applied across the spectrum.
-Full physics engine for tackles, blocking, runs, and all animations. Everything is done on the fly, no two plays look exactly alike.
-Actual visuals that try to replicate what the real thing looks like, including true game speed (Madden and its ilk are extremely slow-paced compared to real football)
-Different levels of difficulty, allowing for more complex playbooks and formations as you get deeper, encouraging you to be a smart coach and use varying looks and schemes, things like that. You should be rewarded for calling smart plays,
-More simulation than arcade, Madden has far too many turnovers to be accurate as far as sim.
-The ability to take control of any one player at any time (example, play as a running back one play, QB the next, receiver the next, from start to finish, and be able to trust the AI to play smart)
-Standard game modes like practice, quick match, franchise (control a team), career (control a player), online, plus a full player and roster editor, full uniform and stadium editor, and all sorts of customizable options for the game like camera views and so forth.

For online mode I'd set it up to be both one-on-one, where you control everyone yourself in the traditional way, or a team mode. Team mode would work with 6-on-6 or 6-on-computer, on offense you have a player controlling everyone except the 5 down lineman, who are computer-controlled. On defense you select a player before the snap and play as that player all the way through the play. Play art would be displayed on the field so that everyone knows their assignments, and one player (the "captain") would choose the plays.

Online mode would have like simple quick matches (unranked), one-on-one matches (ranked), team matches (ranked), tournaments, and leagues.

Online leagues would work like this: league begins, the league's founder indicates their time zone and normal hours of play. When the league is founded, it's posted online in a list, and people who have similar play-time join up, however many teams or players, and a "schedule" is made. Games can be played at any time (for example, you could play your opponent from week 12 before you play your opponent from week 1, you just play the games when you can). Games can also be simulated based on league votes and so forth to avoid delays. When the season is finished (ie, all games played or simulated) the top teams go to playoff and determine a winner.

What cool games would you make? Don't be as detailed as me.

You take two paddles that move vertically and have a ball that bounces in between them and the object is to get it past your opponents paddle. I call it... a time machine.

My game would basically be like Mortal Kombat (the old 2-D stuff), but way gorier, with a heavy metal soundtrack. Or I could just play MK2 on mute with the stereo on. Either way works fine.

Your football game ideas seem pretty cool. However, I kinda prefer the arcade game style. The recent "coach your team" trend in sports games is just way over my head, I just want to score goals/points/touchdowns. Hell, if they made NBA Jam for the 360 I would probably lose my job and friends.

I have actually been writing a storyline to a game for a couple weeks now. The main character is a detective sent to a rural community tracking a mass murderer/serial killer and finds out things are more complicated than they appear. I am not going to go deep into the details. But the game play will be based more on suspense, investigating, and decision making rather than shooting, although I'm working on incorporating enough of that so the gameplay stays varied and doesn't drag. My main problem is that it will probably be about a 15 hour game, and I don't know if there will be much replay value to it.

Ok, so for the Wii, we'll get Mario, and, umm, we'll get him to play, umm, beach volleyball. Yes. Mario Volleyball. I'll also get started on Mario Party 14 (because god knows there won't actually be any developments in Mario Parties 9-13).

Then for the 360, I'll make a third person shooter. Its like, you go around shooting stuff. Its not the most original of games, but it has good graphics, so you better buy it.

I don't know anything about the PS3, so I can't design games for it, unfortunately.

I've thought of that one before... make it so that you join a player-controlled "gang" and declare war on other gangs to take territory, running from the fuzz (who could also be player-characters). I think the MMO relations would end there though, I can't see much you can do in the way of character progression, so it'd mostly be an action game, I think.

A free-roam game, but with a main story-line, ala GTA, Bully (cant think of other really) but your an adult, and its set in a high-rise office in the city.

You start off at the bottom of the ladder, the rookie/intern etc and you work your way up the office ladder, and that is part of the story line, of course there will be obstacles such as rival office workers going for the same promotions, so as a mission, it may involve you sabotaging their work, taking pictures of incriminating things (photoshopping while in the office to make it look worse etc).

You can do the usual stuff in the office and get along with your job, or you can bully and intimidate people until you get your way etc. Most items in the office will be use-able, either as a weapon, or just for fun, such as staplers as a weapon, a photocopier to photocopy pictures of..ahem...'documents'.

As you get higher in the business, the more number of floors become available, as does outside the office, the local streets for lunch time etc.

Ideas for missions:
Sabotage a rival business's, starting from easy stuff like destroying their local marketting, graffiting their building, all the way up to more serious stuff like actually knocking off a manager or two, planting drugs in office cubicles, infesting the business with rats and vermin then calling the health inspector for a 'friendly' tip-off etc.

The main plot basically is getting the manager position of the business.

side-missions such as:
office chair races
ruler projectile olympics

Haha that is an awesome idea. I like the photoshopping to incriminate idea. Ha ha I could see this being a really fun game.

If you're going to go into that much detail why not play the actual game in real life?

Still, would be cool I guess.

why do you think I work in an office?

i like the football game idea, would be cool to have whole teams online and such. as for the WOW/GTA hybrid i think that would be pretty sweet as well, but i would want it to have tons of stuff to do...anything from like mundane getting a job to make money to insane stuff like planning a bank robbery and actually pulling it off. the office game could be fun if done properly. usually when i play games like GTA there's always something i want to be able to do but can't, makes me want to get into game design so i can make games for the other people like me that want to do everything they can. i for one would like a game that was like real life (not like the sims and such) but more GTA-ish but you could do anything...run a casino, open a "legitimate" massage parlor, start gangs, keep on the straight and narrow path and commit no crimes.

haha how much fun would it be if we started a UG gang, and went around robbing other people who were trying to make a decent living? seriously, it seems like such a no-brainer, I don't know why it hasn't been done yet.

first person sports! the ultimate team game with a computer edge. Anyone ever play proball for quake3? Well there would be no dying unless you fell off the edge, no weapons other than something to bounce each other around with and tackle. Would have a pair of team captains to pick members at the start of the game just like in the playground. Object of the game, get the ball into the opponents net/hoop/hole. Voice communication not just optional, mandatory so you can shout abuse at each other and cry "up the wing"

Free-roam games are ultimate win.

Mine would be GTA, but with Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty style graphics, combat, weaponry and movement.
