No Vai? Pffft.

out of that inferior selection it would be Mr Big himself Paul Gilbert.

Buckethead and Malmsteen...no doubt.

If you can't convince them; confuse them.

Gilbert out of that list, but out of all, Steve Vai, joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, and definately, Guthrie Govan and Shane Gibson, they're relatively unknown but GREAT.

I put Herman Li also. And Petrucci.

If Vai were on there, he would've been my top choice though.

EVH has always been one of my main 3 influences, so I picked him. He's probably not the best, but my favourite.

shred? is that a term that big headed showoff guitarists use to disguise the fact that they are less passionate about their instrument than others?

I'm sure you wouldn't have thought of Guthrie Govan, I only heard about him a while back and had no clue about him, legend though, youtube him and listen to "fives".
#23
As far as speed picking goes MAB but I don't listen to any of his music but I know for pure technique he is amazing. Jason Becker is an actual favorite of mine even though Marty Friedman wrote 1/2 his stuff.

here's an idea, shut the FUCK up.

jason becker could squeeze more passion into a single 32nd note than any of YOUR favorite guitarists could into an entire song.

Poor options.
John Squire of Stone Roses, listen to the intro to Love Spreads then try and disagree.

yeah, john's one of my favorites, but he's kind of irrelevant in the shred discussion.

Sorry,WHAT!? Youre saying that being able to shred is a lack of passion for your guitar!?!?!?!?!? Youre saying that King Yngwie is not passionate about guitar playing!? GTFO

And to somebody further up this page, you are right,Guthrie Govan is amazing, his technique is great, and is a perfect match for his tone...

Just becuase a song doesn't consist of whole notes and "epik bendz" doesn't mean it doesn't have emotion.

If someone really likes shred, enough to bring out some kind of emotion in them, then that song would have emotion.

But that's just me

If they weren't passionate about their instrument they wouldnt spend so long practicing and perfecting their technique.

Randy Rhoads and Buckethead. i like randy the best, though.

i tend to not listen to shred guitarists. i respect them loads, but i just don't really like it.
