i must admit, i'm pretty hooked on them. you like them? favs? dislikes?

out of the main ones, i rate em:

1. scarface
1. godfather 1
3. donnie brasco
4. goodfellas
5. godfather 2
6. casino

i'm not even going to rank godfather 3

any recommendations? generally speaking, the best ones have either al pacino or de niro in them (or both in the case of godfather 2!)

Godfather 3 is a great film, people only say it's bad compared to the first two.

Scarface is crap. How dare you place it above the Godfather films. Goodfellas also, way better than Scarface. Scarface is just some asshole swearing a lot and being a dick. There's no honour in it.

i see what your saying, and it is crap. no point in denying it. but for sheer coolness and testostrone, it cannot be beaten. i think godfather should be a joint first actually, simply because it is as good, but in different ways.

I don't like casino . And any part of Godfatheris much better than ScarFace

1. Goodfellas (Favourite film)
2. Pulp Fiction (Second favourite film)
3. Snatch
4. Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
5. Casino
6. The Long Good Friday
7. The Godfather
8. Road to Perdition

I found The Godfather too long and overly drawn out. Goodfellas for me is a perfect movie, great story, great acting, great writing, great characters, great pacing, lots of dark comedy. Same with Pulp Fiction, except it's not quite as good in my opinion.

Goodfellas and Casino are my favorites. Joe Pesci is ****in' awesome.

Wheres the british gangster films? the good ones with great twists?

lock, stock two smoking barrels
snatch
layer cake

all great

and scarface, good, but not that great.
#16
Scareface is a really good film with great acting. Alot of idiots talk about it and like it but the truth is - it's a great film.
#17
To whoever said it, Pulp Fiction does count. How could Samuel L Jackson be more gangsta?

My faves are:

The Long Good Good Friday
Goodfellas
The Departed
Pulp Fiction
The Godfather
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

I only saw a bit of Donnie Brasco, then I fell asleep, I'm gonna rent it soon. I tried to get through Once Upon A Time In America but three and a half hours is very long when I'm ill on a Tuesday. I don't really rate Scarface, either, it's too disjointed and has a thin plot, but it was Al Pacino's best film.

Dude, you made a severe mistake. Where's The Long Good Friday. That is hands down, the best British gangster film. Great plot, absolutely fantastic acting, cars driving on the proper side of the road, great script, and an awesome final twist.

Such a shame that the Yanks are remaking it.

I always thought that Road to Perdition was incredibly underrated. Nobody seems to know what it is over here. <shrugs>

I saw American Gangster last week, AWESOME.

Oh, and I too believe that Scarface is overrated.

I think Scarface is very entertaining. I'm not gonna change my mind.

Goodfellas is my favourite gangster film though.

I really hope you're joking. Can't they leave anything alone? Maybe Scorcese could do it justice, but they should just leave it alone. Like you said, an absolute classic!
Also to TS, Carlito's Way is worth checking out, not as good as Scarface, but worth seeing.

I loved Road to Perdition, great gangster film, and very different toother gangster films. Does get really grim in some places though. I really want, no need, to see American Gangster, but I really couldn't pass for eighteen.

Scarface IS overrated.

Hell I completely forgot about that. Amazing film. If you have the DVD there's also a very interesting documentary on there about the REAL favelas. It's strange to think that the gangsters there are the heroes and the police are the enemies.
#38
Has anyone seen Eastern Promises yet?

I heard it doesnt show a single shot of a red bus passing over tower bridge. For a film set in London with an American director, that's quite amazing.

Glad someone else has seen it One of the best movies ever and no-one's heard of it.
Lil' Ze's gotta be one of the best villains ever, especially as it's all based on real people & events.
And i got the DVD but I never saw the documentary - gonna have to dig it out again now.
