I have to writea 10-15 page paper about the history of guitars for my senior project, and I need some help- what were some contemporary designs to the Strat and Les Paul in the '50s and '60s?

See if you can get "The Electric Guitar Sourcebook" by Dave Hunter. It's about how the various parts of the guitar have an effect on tone, and has loads of guitar profiles.

Offhand, you'll probably need to mention Epiphone (which was an independent company at the time), Gretsch, and Rickenbacker. Maybe also the Silvertones and Danelectros, since they were inexpesnsive and many artists started out playing them.

Why not google "the history of guitars" and do some research?

The frying pan by rickenbacker, the first electric guitar.

If you're going guitars in general look at classical ones and acoustic too.

I'd love to do that I could probably have 10-15 pages form memory!
