Someone told me you can drink at home from much younger than 18, anyone know the truth or specifics of this? I would just feel much more comfortable when having parties if i knew it was completely legal.

(before you all judge, yes I am 16 but I drink every couple of weeks at most and only at parties in someone's house. I hate annoying other people and am quite careful so I never drink on the streets.)

On your own property I'm fairly sure nobody's gonna care, but at someone else's I don't know.

In your own household, you're allowed to drink from the age of 5, as much as you want.

Or so my citzenship teacher tells me. Might not be that reliable, hes a stoner.

no that is true and at a restaurant you can drink from the age of 12 ifyour parents buy the drink for you

if it's in your own home, i believe you are legally allowed to drink alcohol from the age of 5.

You're still gonna have to be 18 to go to the off-licence and buy it.

You can legally drink from 5 years old in your own home, but you'll have to get someone to buy booze for you.

Oh aye, but my step-bro just turned 18 and I know other people. This is partly just out of interest anyway.

Well thanks for the input everyone; so it's from pretty much any age in your own house then? What about other people at your house/you at their's?

im pretty sure you can have a drink in a pub with your parents if you are eating when you're 16. maybe...i might have made that up.

anyway, pretty sure its 18 other than that, just dont try to likc a policeman when you're drunk and im sure you'll be fine

If it's in your own home you're allowed to drink from the age of 5 with parental guidance

If your parents purchase a drink for you while your at a pub and your in the restaurant section or garden you can drink from 12.

To drink at the bar and to purchase alcohol yourself you have to be 18

It's only illegal if you buy alcohol when under the age of 18, there is nothing against drinking it really.

....yes there is. Your not allowed to drink in public places if ur under 18. Regardless of consent from your parents.

You can also have a pint of lager, ale, stout or cider, or a glass of wine or port with a meal at a pub or restaurant from 16.

As much as your parents let you. It's similar to continental laws. Also, you can drink in a restaurant or pub from the age of 16 if a legal guardian buys it for you.

with a parent's or doctor's consent, you can drink with your parents from age 5. you are allowed a glass of wine, cider or beer with a meal at age 16 (once again, only with parents), and you can drink properly when you're 18.

its illegal do drink in a public place whatever age you are!!

Just get a fake id....

I have one and i buy drink for everyone (extra charge of course). The joy of it is if I get caught they can't prosecute me because im not 18!!

I've been told it's from 5 on private property.
Which would make drinking legal at other people's houses ok...

Just don't do it in public. In some areas it's illegal even for over 18s.

I'm pretty sure they can. You may be under 18 but you are still responsible for any crime you commit.

Ah thankee, perfect.

may consume alcohol, e.g. at home. It is only illegal for those aged 5-18 to drink alcohol on licensed premises (without meeting other licensing requirements)
EDIT: that's from 5 indeed,.
From this i assume I can drink at anyone's house then! w00t!

Thankee all!

think you can drink at any age in your own home as long as you didn't buy it
