Hey everyone, I have an argumentative essay due in about 4 hours and I've decided to choose the subject of peer pressure. Can you guys give me some examples of how peer pressure has affected your lives at some point and what you think about the topic? thanks.

Peer pressure is awesome, when your handing it out, less so when your being molested to go out.

Generally, much like you. I have an essay to do, everyone is going out, I generally try to stay in but they make it out to be so amazing when it's usually a shambolic affiar.

yeah, that happens a lot, Blue145..it's a good thing you try to avoid it though most of the time.

Peer pressure is awful for doing work, and in lessons you feel pressured to not pay full attention and work hardest because your peers will take the piss out of you.

There ya go, love.
The will to neither strive nor cry,
The power to feel with others give.
Calm, calm me more; nor let me die
Before I have begun to live.

-Matthew Arnold

Arguments are to be avoided; they are always vulgar and often convincing.

Talk about how peer pressure forces you to go to socialising when you have work to do, and can drag down the quality of your work, as peer groups may not leave you with the time to study and work to your full potential.
Also how it can cause the dog to eat the essay you spent all last week on, and thus you have to rewrite it in a short space of time. Although that was back in my day, when we used pen and paper. I guess your dog is gonna have to eat your HDD and memory stick.

Peer pressure can be the reason why many young people try drugs, smoking or sex.
It can put strain on relationships if a couple are being pressured to have sex which could in turn lead to mistakes being made (ie no contraception!)

That kinda happened to my friend, cos she felt that she was never going to loose her virginity (no-one was actually pressuring her but she felt really annoyed cos she hardly ever meets guys. she was actually the first anyways.). We had to take her to get the morning after pill (on the last day she could take it) in the end.

I suppose when i was 13 at a party peer pressure was the reason i had a drink, i guess you just think "if everyone else is doing it, why the hell not", etc.

No-one else is handing that essay in! Go and do something fun, drugs. Like everyone else.
Friends, applaud the comedy is over.

I'd dance with you but...

Lol. :p what about myspace accounts? teens are always pressured into having one.. I don't consider myspace a bad thing but what are your thoughts?

Peer pressure is causing superficiality (at least, that's how I think it should be spelled). We need to have the newest phones, clothing fashion, whatever. And when someone doesn't fulfill our standards they become an outcast and noone wants to be an outcast. So they spend their money on that crap.

Peer pressure can change your personality infinitely. You all know the stereotyped quiet kids who are perfectly nice, but are trodden on because unless, so to speak, 'provoked', they don't show a particular character. You have to either go with joining the nice person and being shit on by everyone else or join in with the majority and potentially crush a perfectly nice person's spirit (in bad cases, of course).

Hope that helped <3

I would do the positive side but there is more issues with the negative..I can't bring in the positive side at all since it's an argumentative essay..

Although I have something of a history of what could be dubbed "Substance abuse" by so-called authorities on the matter, I've honestly only experienced peer pressure as an excuse. Honestly I've never used any intoxicant that I didn't want to and never felt "pressured" to do so.
