What are something you do/suggest to do when you go try out a new guitar? For example, I like to test the pickup selector to make sure that it doesn't buzz when switching pickups, and do the same with the tone knob.

sir, i would like to inform you that you are now my favorite UGer. Not only did you use the word y'all, which is native to my homeland, but you correctly punctuated it using the apostrophe.

Usually the first thing I do is play it unplugged to get an Idea of its natural tone.

One thing I tend to do is play an E-shape barre chord at every fret right up the neck to check for any overly terrible fret-buzz.
