Okay, so Im looking to buy a bass soon...after I get a guitar head (Im getting a dual rec prob for about $200 perfect condition from a friend which I will sell for an ENGL blackmore) but anyways....Im looking into getting a 5 string.

I play stuff like Suffocation, Vader, Decapitated, Necrophagist, etc...Brutal/tech death stuff. So I want a 5 string and will probably get a used Ampeg for stack. So what I am looking to spend is around $700-$800 on the bass. I am searching constantly for a used Tobias, in black finish, or a Vigier (the one steffan fimmers uses) but its impossible lol

As for a bass that actually exists, I am looking at a couple...

BC Rich NT Warlock Bass

Spector 5 String Legend

Thats pretty much all I have found...if you guys have any suggestions let me know. I dont like Ibanez basses though.

If you want a BC Rich, get the Zombie 5-string. It looks so much cooler IMO.

If you can spend a few extra dollars, I recommend this: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ESP-LTD-B405SM-5String-Bass?sku=513744

EDIT: Or you can just get 4 of these : http://www.musicyo.com/product_specs.asp?pf_id=490

I've got one, and it's the most amazing bass I've played.

Give a shot to the Ibanez SRX series. These are quite affordable (within your range, maybe less) and have some deadly active pickups for that sound that you are into. They can be loud, or paired with the right effects, can just get as deep and mean sounding as you like.

Check my sig, and there are pictures of it on my page. Fender Deluxe Active J-bass, It's great in it's versatility and what not.

B.C rich's don't really offer much more than a unique look. They don't really contribute to anything in the bass world besides that. And that's not much of a contribution. Fender's on the other hand has carved out Electric Basses they way we know them today. But that's not really a reason to try them. I would suggest also a Fender Jazz 24, or whatever the heck Jazz_Rock_Feel owns, because of it's extended range. (4 half tones) and because they're suppose to have really good actions on them. But if you are looking for something outside the fender box, Warwicks are pretty awesome.

I heard Vigier are about to release some amazing new basses - maybe a good idea to wait and see what they are like?

As for the head, Ill get the B2R series for now. Theres no point in spending all that money on a bass rig IMO. Its not my main instrument and B2R is damn good and like an SVT without the strength and warmth of a tube head. Good enough for me.

If I cant afford or find a Vigier, I'll probably ebay a tobias, maybe even a 4 string because Tobias' are so nice.
