How would I go about, say partitioning my hard disk? Into uneven partitions (120Gb & 40Gb)

Partition? You need to win the election and then bargain with the invading government.
Friends, applaud the comedy is over.

I'd dance with you but...

I <3 that attempt at being funny, I see you have mastered this skill, next, however, you must go on a quest to find a new skill! Usefulness.

fdisk

Comes in the coreutils package... But you probably run Windows, so go buy partition magic. $$

I do run windows, and I'm not really up for using my card online, so free is preferable.

The whole reason I'm wanting the partition is for Linux

In that case, pop in your linux installation CD and use that to partition.

if this a secondary drive

start -> run -> diskmgmt.msc

otherwise you can do it when installing the OS

That'll sort it all yeah? Also, when dual booting, does it give you an option on start-up? (sorry, never ran a dual-boot system before)

Yeah, it does.
I tried using DISKPART when trying to dual boot vista, bu gave up because it wasn't making a big enough partition. If you like, and happen to be installing vista, Press SHIFT+F10 while installing, type diskpart in the cmd sort of box, then diskpart, then something like list drives
then select drive 0 (or your C: drive) and then I forgot.

Well when I installed Ubuntu, yeah it installed a boot loader. A boot loader is a program that detects all of the operating systems you have on your computer and lists them at startup so you can choose which one you want to load up.

it doesn't really detect them
you have to tell them where they are beforehand when you set it up so when it you can choose and it then instructs the computer where to look for the OS
