If you plan on doing any jamming/gigging with it, go with the Palomino. 3x the wattage and 2x the speaker area make a huge difference in terms of volume. Plus, it's just a nice amp.
You Don't Need a halfstack.

You Don't Need 100W.

i wouldnt go with a tube amp if you dont have much money!
my gear:

guitar: Schecter c1 classic
amp: Engl fireball
box: Engl v30 4x12
effects: g-major
in future: ESP eclipse, PRS Custom 24...

The Palomino would most likely be the better choice. As slats said, it has a bigger speaker (which is good - small speakers can be a bad thing) and it would be loud enough to gig with. Plus, for the price, it's certainly a good deal

Why not? Are cheap tube amps bad or something?

You'll need a pedal to hard rock tones, or you'd need to drive the amp fairly hard to get them.

Can you stretch your budget at all? Very nice amps come into play once you get to about 500 bucks...

used Traynor YCV40...Mine cost me 425 USD...
used Peavey Classic 30...I've seen these go for under 400...
used Traynor YCV50 Blue...should find them for under 500...

that would be alright, it'd probably get you a hard rock sound, i dunno

you'd probably need a metal muff (DON'T GO FOR A BOSS METAL ZONE).

fender pro jr blows both of them away. the laney lc 15 though is probably the best in that price range. you can find them new an real cheap on ebay.

The LC15 looks really nice... about how much is its average price?

around 200-300 new on ebay. they come and go, but if you're not in a rush then you might want to wait till one shows up. if you need an amp now, i'd suggest the pro jr. you can get those cheap too.

I RARELY see LC15's on US eBay. Even VC15's are rare.
During my search for an amp, I saw VC15's go for around 400, still. At least.
