I find them very useful. It's not really a substitute for a serious player, I think, but it's certainly a good start for the beginner. Try them out, you'll probably like them.
Sincerely, Chad.

dude, why are you worried about growing your nails, you only do it on one hand it it doesnt take long, plus if you dont like them then you just cut them straight off. its not like if you have really long hair and your getting it cut and your worried then, because if it does end up bad you have months of growing to get it back like old, but if your going the other way the worst that happens is you just cut your hair if you decide it looks crap long. same applies for nails and nails arent anywhere near as noticable as hair
Also i find the best length for fingerpicking isnt hugely long anyway, just enough to catch the strings as you pick, defs not enough to get in the way of anything else in life, i actually found it better to have a little bit of nail for some things

Wow, big mistake here. The rate at which nails grow is just as variable between people as the rate at which hair grows. I spent two months growing my nails to proper length when I started classical, so I know that some people's nails grow slower than others.

well i guess my nails do only take a little over a week to get to were i like playing with them, but then again my hair tends to grow very quickly..maybe theres a link. But i still think not growing nails on the "what if i dont like it" side of things is ridiculous.... if you dont like classical then you just cut them off. No hamr done, but sure, alaska piks could be usefull if your nails dont grow fast or if your like me and get sick of having long nails and having to care for them and rip them off on occasions

Also, they're useful if you have brittle nails that tend to crack. I know someone who uses them for that reason.
Sincerely, Chad.

Im almost tempted to try them out.
But i dont think my local store carries them and without knowing what size i need that could be an issue lol.
