Are the Major and Minor Pentatonic shapes the same?

Also, what are some songs utilizing the Pentatonics, or parts of songs using these scales?

Yeah the shapes are exactly the same. The shape after the one you start on for Minor Pentatonic is the Major and then the rest is the same.

Almost every Rock song ever uses Pentatonic it's hard NOT to hear it.

Check out the live version of Celebration Day by Led Zeppelin. Jimmy Page uses both the Major and Minor Pentatonic on the final solo.
Duke Ellington - If it sounds good, it is good.

Ah. So can you switch from Major to Minor in the same key? Or for that matter, can you switch scales as long as they are in the same key?

yeah. for example you could play c major pentatonic then switch to a minor pentatonic, since they contain the same notes.

Ah. Alright.

Do you have to start the scale from a root note? Or can you begin from anywhere?
