Okay, how do I find t

10 = 8.5(1.02)^t/1

divide 10 by 8.5 and take logs of both sides
that is

10/8.5 = t*log(1.02)

Why it's t/1 is beyond me though.

Edit: Just in case you dont know: log(x^(p)) = plog(x)

its t/1 because I need to find the amount of time it will take for 8.5 to reach 10 at a 2% increase rate each year, the 1 representing ONE year.
