So - Maybe a pit first.. This thread isn't about Hate, it's about respect

Basically everyone has their own taste in music (not just including UG, a statement in general).
Metal
Rock
Pop
Rap
R n' B
Hip Hop

Etc

When we pick our own, we usually shun all other genres of music, classing them as ''Lower." I'll admit, I'm guilty of this, but in all honesty there are some artists in other genres that I will recognize as truly being exceptional.

So as a Metal head, I have to say - Gnarls Barkley has an incredible voice, K-OS has a cool style and Trent Reznor has a very creative mind

So spread your wings, see if you can come up with anyone you actually enjoy that you don't normally listen to.

primus, i just cant say no to those incredible bass lines. (and cant stop wishing i could play them )

I like the technicality of some classical and heavier types of metal. I like listening to the bass and drums in rap and hip hop, and I like how lots of it is catchy and fun to sing.
#4
I respect all of the classical music, but I just can't sit down and listen to it
OAKLAND A's - 9 TIME CHAMPS!!

DUKE BLUE DEVILS - 4 TIME CHAMPS & 19 TIME ACC CHAMPS!!

OAKLAND RAIDERS - 4 TIME LEAGUE CHAMPS!!

i like everything some genres are just special to certain things. rock is for listening sitting down, listening to your ipod. and then learning it on guitar or sumthin. rap and techno is good to dance to, no way in hell im dancing to some classic rock song. but im not gonna sit in my room and listen to techno on my ipod.

metal - metallica
rock - dashboard confessional (if you can sing one of their songs to a girl, damnn)
rap - timbaland, genious

Someone here said it before, it is unnatural to listen to only one genre of music. I believe some are so desperate to define their identity that they chose to devote themselves completely to one genre of music. I defined my identity from my pornographic preferences.

I have a lot of respect for Ice Cube. I think he's a great musician.

For pop I'd say Justin Timberlake. He writes all of his own stuff at least. Most pop artists don't write ANY of their own material, they're just paid to perform it.

I am so guilty of this, I like Rock,Blues,Soul Music,Jazz,Classical, and Folk, I'd like to say it's because I'm right but it's because I don't always have an open mind when it comes to Metal, Rap,Ska,Punk,R&B I just can't deal with it.

But this is an excellent subject, thank you to the creator, because as much as I don't have that respect(now) it's a great thing to have and also important.

As a blues junkie.. I respect all form of music.. I also really don't like people that hate on people for liking a different style of music.

I'm glad this thread was made. It seems these days everyone has a closed mind when it comes to music. TS, you have my respect and appreciation.

I personally will not disregard any kind of music. I think to be as great of a musician as you can, you've got to have respect for everything. Rock, metal, country, jazz... there's something incredible in any music out there. You've just got to have the mind to find it.

I am partial to indie and pop-punk, but when I want to be rowdy hardcore and grindcore are awesome.

Everybody loves a bit of hip-hop, I love hip-hop beats and sampling.

Dance/techno just makes me want to dance and **** and pop extacy sometimes.

R&B is awesome, and catchy as ****, along with modern pop.

Electronica is awesome, and chipcore is even better.

You can find something, or someone, good within any genre, its a mood thing

There are very, very, very few types of music that I can't find some sort of joy in.

I can say that My Chemical Romance DOES come up with some pretty tasty guitar parts, and aren't bad at all most times, the vocals are the only thing making them bad.

That's all I could think of. =/

But as much as I despise modern mainstream rap/hip-hip I gotta hand it to Kayne West, his songs aren't too bad.

I definantly agree with you, i'm always trying to find why people like the music they do.

Theres one thing that really turns me away from a song though, and that's poor lyrics. No matter what genre it is. I love to freestyle too , I love funky rap beats, Zero is the man

the other day these kids I went to school came over and managed to get me headbanging to Waking the Cadaver, wtf man. I guess I couldn't get pissed that the lyrics sucked, seeing as I didn't know wtf he was saying.

Country music is a genre i can't really enjoy

I adore hiphop, I really do. The bass and drumming in it, whilst simple, is just.. hypnotic. It's like the Kraftwerk song 'Autobahn', you don't want to turn it off until it's finished, in case you miss the pay off.

I love simple music that makes you listen.

i don't wanna sound like a pretentious ass but i really do like music of like every genre. i got metal, punk, hardcore, indie, pop, hip hop, and all that stuff...

but if there's any genre i don't really like, i would say country. but i will go on to say that johnny cash is a god, though i guess that was a little too easy.
#36
I'm a total metalhead. Fully obsessed with death metal like Behemoth, JFAC (stfu, the new album is), Spawn Of Possession, etc. But I'll still listen to nearly any other genre except for 2.

Mainstream rap, the bunch of black dudes going on about how much money they have and how many bitches they got. Nup, can't stand it.

Mainstream, MANUFACTURED POP. All of the Idol's and stuff like.

Apart from, I'll listen to nearly anything.
#37
Well, I don't think there is an artist I like from a genre I dislike. I love Classical, Jazz, Classic and Modern Rock, Mexican Ranchera, Electronica, Pop, Blues, Folk and Soul music. I can't think of any artists I like that are in a genre I dislike.

I will say that although I hate Celine Dion's music, she is a good singer.
