I think it's about time for me to upgrade my cheap ol' parlor sized acoustic and go for a full-sized one. What are some good brands? Any specific models you'd recommend? I'd prefer that it be electric-acoustic. What I'll be playing on it would mostly be like Jazz, Acoustic Blues, some Folk-Rock sounding stuff (think Dylan), and some Worship for church. What would be a good versatile guitar for that stuff? Not sure about the price range yet, so as long as it's not over a grand I'll consider it.

That's extremely vague. You haven't mentioned the timbre you want, the body type, the volume, or anything else. All you've mentioned are playing styles. Jazz is played on both acoustic and electric guitars. You need to look at specifics.
Sincerely, Chad.

Well I don't know much about acoustics, so naturally I don't know what to specify either.

What body type would be best for this kind of stuff?

well since you are going to be playing such a variety of styles, i would go with a dreadnought. you said anything up to $1000. so are you completely comfortable spending that much money? there's a big difference in a $400 acoustic-electric, a $700 acoustic-electric, and a $1000 acoustic-electric.

Well preferably, I'd like something reasonably lower than $1000 .

So most likely around the 400's, I guess, if that can get me something decent. What's your opinion on Epiphone Acoustics?

I don't think Epiphone really offers any acoustic-electric guitars between $400-$500 that stand up well to their competitors. I like these models by Takamine, Seagull, and Alvarez much better. I think the Alvarez guitars sound the best unplugged. The Takamine guitars sound the best plugged in. The Seagull guitar has kind of a different sound altogether in my opinion, but is a great guitar that sounds pretty good plugged in and unplugged.

Also, the second Takamine I posted and the Seagull both have solid cedar tops, while the other Takamine and the Alvarez guitars have solid spruce tops. You said you don't know much about acoustics, so you really need to play some and decide which you like better.

I think you could find an Epiphone for around that price range, they tend to be decent.

My buddy has a Takamine that sounds terrible, I don't know what the price range was or what not but that has led me to have a bias against that brand.

What Epi's would you recommend?

And to jimtaka, thanks, I'll definitely try those out!

Of those, which one do you think would be best?
