Hey, does anyone know how to read sheet music for bass? Can someone tell me where the open E string would be on the bass staff?

Also, does anyone know where each octave of a note should be written on the staff? For instance, if I play the A string open, where would I write that in the staff as compared to the A string on the 12th fret?

And... also, how many octaves does a standard 21-fret bass span? How can you tell the difference between where octaves end and begin? Example, the third fret on the low E string is G, but the open G string is also G, but the G string open sounds "higher"... is that a different octave?

Anyway, just some thoughts in my head. Any help will be appreciated, thanks guys.

Yeah you need a start on basic music theory, scales, octaves, chords, ect.
