I'm thinking of getting a new amp but i'm having trouble choosing which one to get. Its got to be at least 100watt and it has to heavy distortion and a nice clean sound because im a metal player who likes to play a few chord progressions. Oh and around about £300.
Any advice would be great.

IMO you should save up a little more and get a good quality tube amp. Solid state amps IMO are weak and do not cut the mustard in a band mix.

You could get a decent 2nd hand marshall JCM900 or JCM2000 DSL50 for £400-£450.

100 watt is only slightly louder than a 50watt, dont be confused that its twice as loud.

i would recommend to save up and buy used.....either a Peavey 5150 or a Engl fireball

just read that you want some nice cleans....in that case forget the Peavey and save up for a used fireball!!!!!
you will get kickass destortion and brilliant cleans

than buy a miracle man for your bridge and an abraxas for your neck pickup and you will be in guitar-heaven!!!
my gear:

guitar: Schecter c1 classic
amp: Engl fireball
box: Engl v30 4x12
effects: g-major
in future: ESP eclipse, PRS Custom 24...

wat about a line 6 spider 3??? are they any good??

Let the flaming begin...
You're not hearing these guys. They're right. Be patient, & save a bit more to buy something you'll love, not something you'll regret. A Spider sounds great til you turn it up past whisper volume, then it just gets thin & tinny & sterile sounding. You WILL most likely regret buying one. In the UK, a used Engl would indeed be a great value, & sounds great at any volume.

Also, as stated above, 100W is only a little louder than 50W. Don't get stuck on trying to get more watts than the next guy. My Soldano SLO with 2 tubes pulled out (running at 50W) will cut through & be easily heard over a 150W Mesa Triple Rectifier any day.

ill try an save then. the fireball sounds pretty good from wat you guys are saying, cheers

While you're saving, try as many amps as you can get your hands on. The more you try, the better the decision you'll be able to make when you buy. Don't be afraid to try out expensive amps, too. The music store staff will never know if you can afford it or not. Heck, tell them your limit is 1500 quid!

I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.
