I've seen some poems and not just lyrics laying around, so I decided *shrugs* why not? Here's a sestina.

"Conquering the Tides"

By the harbor, I watch a ship sail alone
To its own accord through the night waters.
As the moonlight shines down to create a silhouette
Of the ship in the distance, I think about my own life.
Sometimes it seems like the days are passing me by,
So I wish to be that ship that sails slowly through time.

When left to one’s own endeavors, thoughts about time
And its remorselessness are enough to make anyone feel alone,
Sinking into that undertow of depression that is created by
The emotional tides of the endless depths of the waters,
Struggling to keep up with the mystery that we call life
To remain in the eyes of others, more than just a mere silhouette.

But sometimes it’s our friends who are the silhouettes,
Remaining in our company for only a short period of time
Before fading completely away from our lives,
Abandoning us so that we’re stuck standing alone
In the midst of a heavy downpour of water
To wait for any signs of sunshine to pass by.

Why does all our happiness seem to fly right by
And leave us behind in the dust like a silhouette
When difficult ordeals cling like adhesive water
To our skin, desperate to remain with us through time?
And then we realize how often we’re left alone,
Feeling as if misery will be our only companion in life.

It is difficult not to think that the journey of life
Will always lead to friendly faces passing us by
Without stopping for a moment to appease our loneliness.
That, instead, their faces will remain the silhouettes
Of a vast crowd growing infinitely larger over time
To stretch beyond the distance of the waters.

However, the image of the black marble waters
Before me is much too beautiful to think about life
In such a way, at least for one night. As the time
Sitting quietly by the harbor leisurely passes by,
I feel a comforting sense of serenity that is more than a silhouette
Because, sometimes, the best peace is reached when alone.

Standing proudly above the waters, the ship slowly sails by,
Moving on with its life in silent confidence. Just as its silhouette
Fades in time, I smile gratefully to the horizon, leaving my worries alone.

This is depressing.

But "remorselessness" is a nice amalgamatory word.
There's only one girl in the world for you
and she probably lives in Tahiti.

I didn't mean for it to be depressing, but thought-provoking. Thanks for commenting though.
