Hey UG dudes i'm planning on buying a new overdrive pedal next monday and i've narrowed my search down to the following :

1. Krank krankshaft
2. Maxon / Ibanez OD808
3. Ibanez TS9
4. Blackstar HT overdrive
5. MXR ZW-44
6. Crowther's audio "Hot Cake"
7. Pro Co Rat

Okay fine , so i lied about the narrowing part . Could you guys help me make a choice ? I'm looking for something versatile as i play a wide range of music , from stevie ray vaughan to dimmu borgir . Amp wise i use a Vox AD30VT , and my main guitar is a jackson RR3

Maybe you should check out a fulltone OCD. I'm not sure if they only sound good with tube amps though.

well i now see you have valvetronix, i think?

idk the model numbers of vox's

with a tube amp the ts9 SCREAMS

you can get light warm buttery srv tones and turn it up for reall nice heavy but not super high gain kind of stuff

imo to get the best out of a ts9 use it with your amp on a clean channel and let it do the rest

yeah i was planning on buying a randall RG50HC soon

In that case, I would say stay away from the ZW-44, its a good pedal, but creates alot of noise (bad noise).

Look into the TS9, OD808, and Fulltone OCD.

does anyone have experience with the krankshaft ? cause i read on total guitar that it's really good

Maxon OD-808 unless you're handy with a soldering iron and want to get a TS-9 and mod it to 808 specs or do the keeley mod to it. But honestly, through the Vox it's not really gonna what it's meant to do in a tube amp... Plus the Voxs dont like distortions very much either.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

The Maxon OD808 or the OD-9 are great but IMO i like the OD-9 better, more gain.

The OCD is supposed to be amazing as well.

I would personally get one of those 3.
-Shecter C-7 Hellraiser FR, Schecter C-1 Hellraiser FR,
ESP LTD F-2005, Ibanez RG7321
-Peavey 6505+
-Maxon OD-9, Dunlop 535Q Wah, EHX Deluxe Memory Man, MXR 10-band EQ, MXR Super Comp

If you're getting that amp, it seems like you're after gain. If you're after gain, go for the ZW-44.

Zakk Wylde used SD-1 though. I'd go for that instead.
But the Maxons are probably the best.
