Wow, what a broad question.

Get a stratocaster and a '57 twin tweed.
Guitar:
Epiphone Les Paul Standard
Amplifier:
Fender Blues Junior - Eminence Red, White and Blues
Effects:
Fulltone OCD
Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone
Ibanez DE-7 Delay/Echo
Dunlop Crybaby
Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi

yep. '57 twin's breakup is more musical than a bassman's breakup. thats why clapton likes it.

u need it cranked though. u really do.

Well that's for his modern solo tone.

But really threadstarter to answer your question, please state all of the following things (thouroughly!)
1. What era? If you say his solo career, which decade/ album/ era of it?
2. What gear do you have?
3. Are you buying new gear, if so on what budget?
4. What other things do you play?
5. Are you gigging or playing at home?

^it's my favorite tone of his.

then it'd be the tone in '01 LA concert. then Layla, Beano, then Disraeli Gears.

Now running an Eleven Rack with Pro Tools 10.3.3 - it's amazing and I'm having ball with it - worth every penny. PT 10 is tops IMO and the Eleven Rack is a work of art!

Bassmans sound closer to the Marshalls he used to get his best tones. IMO, obviously.
